For a Firearms Identification Card, a Application for Firearm Purchaser Identification Card Form and Consent for Mental Health Records Search Form are needed. A check or money order for $5.00 made out to the Somerville Police MUST accompany the completed application. Fingerprints MUST be taken. A money order only for $49.00 made out to the New Jersey State Police is required at the time of fingerprinting. The applicant needs to contact Detective Edward Purcell at 725-6900 for fingerprinting.

For a Firearms Identification Card and a Permit to Purchase a Handgun, the applicant must retrieve and return the completed forms with a check or money order for $7.00 made out to the Somerville Police. Make sure the Mental Health Form is completed. A money order for $49.00 is necessary as fingerprints must be taken. Money order to be made out to the New Jersey State Police.

For applicants who already have an I.D. card, and who want to Purchase a Handgun, must complete an Application to Purchase a Handgun form. When the form is returned, the desk officer will ask to see the old I.D. card. Application must accompany a $2.00 money order or personal check made out to Somerville Police.

For a Change of Address, Name Change, Replacement, etc., there is no fee. An Application for a Duplicate Firearms Purchaser Identification Card form is needed. Fingerprints are no longer required. The new Firearms "Insta-Check" replaces the fingerprint check for applicants who have a Firearms Identification Card already.
